Welcome to Nunavut
Welcome to Nunavut

Welcome to Nunavut is an intimate visit with six northern characters during four frenzied days in the birth of Canada's newest territory. It's the story of a single moment in history told from six uniquely personal perspectives.

The opinions and experiences vary all the way from that of the newly elected Inuk premier to an ex-Montreal beautician. There's an old guard politician, and an up-and-coming Inuk rock star. Some are Inuit who've lived in the Arctic all their lives and others are people who just came for a while and somehow never left again. Told all together, their stories combine to give an funny and fractured view of this one moment in our history, the creation of Canada's newest territory, Nunavut.

Produced by Nutaaq Media in CO-production with the National Film Board of Canada and in association with CBCNewsworld and the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation it was directed by George Hargrave and Joe Moulins.

Welcome to Nunavut is narrated by Abe Tagalik, former land claim officer and current chairman of the newly licensed Aboriginal People's Television Network (APTN). It features the stories of Paul Okalik, Sytukie Joamie, Suzanne Laliberte, Lucie Idlout, Bryan Pearson and Bert Rose.

It was produced by Nutaaq Media in CO-production with the National Film Board of Canada and in association with CBC Newsworld and the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation.
